The Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy is expected to open the first tender for the construction of wind farms, through a scheme similar to the one used for the photovoltaic of Karavasta and Spitalla. The tender is expected to be organized in the first quarter of 2021, aiming to diversify the country‘s energy resources. According to a preliminary announcement of the ministry, the auction will give the opportunity to bidders to propose projects with a minimum capacity of 30 MW and a maximum capacity of 75 MW, from which the ministry will select to support with energy purchase agreements projects with a total of 130 MW.
Prior notice before the tender is announced to help investors, inviting them to identify the area where they will build the wind farm, in order to use all the time available from the announcement of the auction until the opening of bids to carry out the necessary measurements in the area, as these measurements require 12-15 months. In parallel, a study funded by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development is expected to assist the interested investors.
